I chose the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay for my album cover.

Key words that came to mind while listening to the music:

sunset, castle, sword and shield, ruled the world, bells ringing

Color:

orange, purple, yellow

Images:

sunset, crumbling medieval castle in desert, crumbling/breaking structures, sword and shield, crown

Here's the closeups of all my sketches (annotations included):

Hi Shannon, I really like all the unique symbols that you use to portray the message in the song. For instance, the images of swords, blood, chess pieces, and crumbling walls are all closely related to rebellion and overthrowing a monarch. Your choice of colors is also good because they give the viewer a feeling of medieval conflict. I would suggest adding red, a color often associated with violence and blood. I also really like your use of the crumbling sand texture in design number 13. I think you could use this idea in design 21. Instead of a third pawn, you could replace it with a crumbling rook, which would highlight one of the strong images in the song. I particularly like this deign (number 21), since it is very symbolic of the lower class overthrowing the authority. I suggest thinking about creative ways to incorporate the title of the song and the artist or fonts that also convey the theme of medieval times. For instance, I think blackletter fonts are very fitting. The song also has a lot of Christian symbols, and it would be interesting to incorporate them in your design. For example, you could use a shield with a cross on it as a background for the chess pieces. You could put the title and artist of the song on it too.
