I incorporated Ben, Luke, and Allen's suggestions to use the lowercase y, which they all agreed made the logo more playful, relaxed, and distinctive. I also followed Ben's suggestion to keep the logo close to the original, so I kept the color and the basic layout, and I think it turned out well. The people I showed it to could immediately tell that it was a redesigned Yahoo logo when I showed it to them, so it seems like my logo has enough resemblance to the original one that it still retains its identity.

I also used Luai, Luke, Eliza, and Becky's suggestions to play around with the shape of the logo by changing the shape of the exclamation point to better match the circle. That way, all three elements (the y, circle, and exclamation point) all looked more unified because they were all curved.

I used my crazy hacking skills  I modified the HTML code of Yahoo's website on my computer to replace Yahoo's logo with mine and took a screenshot to put it in context:
